Artists in the country have been urged to protect their work

The first Ntchito Za Manja Anga session, organized by NewWave Music Company, emphasized the importance for artists in Malawi to protect their creative works in order to maximize their benefits. Nthangwanika Kondowe, the Chief Operations Officer at NewWave Music Company, highlighted that many artists struggle to earn sufficient income from their work due to their failure to register with the copyright society of Malawi and their use of ineffective marketing and distribution methods.

Kondowe pointed out that misconceptions about the operations of the Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA) contribute to artists' reluctance to protect their work. She stressed the need for a change in perception so that artists can fully capitalize on the potential benefits of their creations. To address these challenges, Kondowe pledged her company's commitment to educating artists on best practices for protecting, marketing, and distributing their works. This initiative aims to empower artists with the necessary knowledge to safeguard their intellectual property and enhance their earning potential.

Dali, an artist based in Mzuzu, expressed appreciation for the training session, describing it as an enlightening experience. He believes that by applying the knowledge gained effectively, artists can begin to generate meaningful income from their artistic endeavors. Overall, the Ntchito Za Manja Anga session serves as a crucial platform for raising awareness among Malawian artists about the importance of protecting their creative works and adopting sustainable strategies for success in the music industry.
